How did you get into MMA?
After a bad hiking trip, a friend's husband told me about BJJ so I tried it. One of the guys in class owned KOTC. I went to shows out at Soboba Casino and then started interviewing fighters for Adcombat.com.
What is your martial arts background?
I'm a 4th degree black belt in BJJ. I've competed and won many tournaments including IBJJF, FILA/USA Grappling, was the 2006 ADCC North American Trials Winner and 2007 ADCC Silver Medalist.
My 9 years of teaching at Big John McCarthy's Ultimate Training Academy includes assistant coaching the MMA Fight Team for 6 years and 2 years as a member of the Fight Team.
Why do you officiate MMA?
It's a great challenge to learn a new skill and develop a different understanding of the sport. It was time.
What is your career background?
After earning my MFA in New Genres at UCLA, I worked at the American Film Institute and learned about Digital Media. This led to a career as a Broadcast Designer in Hollywood. I helped start the Digital Media Department at Otis College of Art and Design where I was a guest lecturer until Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu took over my life.
What do you do on your time off?
Train. Make art.
