How did you get into MMA?
I was introduced to MMA in high school and was a huge fan right away. I would round up friends to watch UFC and PRIDE FC pay-per-views and spent hours looking up fighters on Sherdog and other websites. I was obsessed and bought as many DVDs as I could afford. I was intrigued by the skill and toughness of the competitors and knew I wanted to give it a try.
What is your martial arts background?
I found my first MMA gym in 2003 and began to learn submission grappling, wrestling and judo. I joined American Top Team Longwood (FL) in 2008 to begin competing. I competed in 11 sanctioned amateur bouts in muay Thai and MMA with an 10-1 record. I earned my black rank in muay Thai and began instructing in 2012. I continue to train and enjoy traveling and visiting different MMA gyms across the country.
Why do you officiate MMA?
When I began, MMA was controversial and amateur MMA in Florida was illegal. MMA would not be the sport it is today without a well designed rule set and competent officials enforcing the unified rules. I referee to make sure the rules are being followed and for fighter safety. Great Officials allow the sport of MMA to grow and to be accepted around the world.
